Parliament Winter Session- Former Union Minister introduces a bill, opposition disputes over it

  • Former Union Minister from Rajasthan K.J. Alphons introduced a private member bill in the Rajya Sabha.
  • This bill was strongly opposed by the opposition members after which the bill was put in reserve by the opposition members.
  • The bill proposed that the word 'socialism' mentioned in the Preamble of the Constitution should be replaced by the word 'justified'.
  • Several opposition MPs objected saying that preamble is the basic structure, cant be amended.
