'Touching the delicate parts of children without skin to skin contact is sexual abuse'- SC

  • The Supreme Court has ruled over the issue of skin to skin contact not being mandatory for sexual offences against children.
  • The top court stated that touching the delicate parts of children without skin to skin contact is sexual abuse under the POCSO Act.
  • It added that the purpose of POCSO is to protect children from sexual abuse. Such a narrow interpretation would be harmful.
  • SC has also set aside the decision of the Bombay High Court and the accused in the case has been sentenced to 3 years.
  • A bench of Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, Justice S Ravindra Bhatt and Justice Bela M Trivedi gave this verdict.
