Fabindia terms new Diwali stock as 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz', laters pulls ad, BJP MP targets

  • Famous Clothing brand Fabindia had promoted its new collection on Twitter for Diwali. It termed it as 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz'.
  • The brand was accused of "distorting" the Hindu festival of Diwali. Later, Fabindia removed the tweet as many criticized it for elevating Muslim ideologies in the Hindu festival.
  • The deleted tweet wrote, "As we welcome the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz by Fabindia is a collection that beautifully pays homage to Indian culture."
  • The first one to target was BJP's Tejasvi Surya. He tweeted, "Deepavali is not Jash-e-Riwaaz. This deliberate attempt of Abrahamisation of Hindu festivals."
  • He added, "Depicting models without traditional Hindu attires, must be called out. And brands like Fabindia must face economic costs for such deliberate misadventures."
