TMC furious over increasing the jurisdiction of BSF, bid - 'this is 'encroachment' on the rights of the state'

  • Criticizing the Centre's decision to increase the jurisdiction of the BSF, the TMC said it was an "encroachment" on the rights of the state and an attack on the federal structure of the country.
  • The Central Govt has amended the BSF Act to give it the power to search, seize and arrest in a large area of тАЛтАЛ50 km from the present 15 km of the International Border in Punjab, West Bengal and Assam.
  • Strongly opposing the decision, the TMC demanded the Center to withdraw it immediately.
  • The party claimed that the decision was taken without consulting the West Bengal government.
  • It said that the government is doing this only to "encroach" on the rights of the states with the aim of harassing them.
