'Don't argue on principles, show the stats'- Supreme Court on reservation in promotion for SC, ST
- The Supreme Court has reprimanded the Center over reservation in promotion for SC, ST.
- The Court asked the Centre about the steps it has taken to justify the decision to provide reservation in promotions to SC and ST employees.
- A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao, Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai said that the govt will have to justify that they have a representation in a special cadre.
- It requested the Centre not to argue on principles and show the stats. The bench asked the Centre about the efforts it made to justify the decisions.
- Earlier, on Sept 14, the apex court had said that it will not reopen its decision to grant reservation in promotion to SCs and STs as it is for the states to decide how they implement it.
