Assam: Congress MLA Sharman Ali Ahmed arrested for making a controversial statement, sedition case registered
- Assam Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed has been arrested on sedition charges for making 'provocative' remarks during an anti-encroachment drive in Darrang district.
- Ahmed was detained from his MLA residence in Dispur on Saturday and taken to Panbazar police station for questioning, where he was later arrested.
- The police officer said that Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed can be produced in the court today.
- He also said that a case has also been registered against him under section 124A (sedition) of IPC.
- In fact, several organizations including the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and the BJP's Yuva Morcha BJYM had lodged police complaints against the MLA for his remarks.
