Clashes between police and protesters in Assam, firing during anti-encroachment drive
- A fierce clash broke out between the police and the local people during an anti-encroachment operation in the Darrang district of Assam today.
- Nine policemen and two civilians are said to be injured in the clash in Dholpur, during which policemen have also been seen firing.
- Darang's superintendent of police said that locals opposed the eviction drive and started pelting stones.
- SP Sushant Biswa Sarma said, "Nine of our policemen were injured. Two civilians were also injured."
- He further added, "They have been admitted to the hospital. Things are normal now."
