- The Election Commission reached the Supreme Court on the issue of EVMs for elections in 5 states including UP in 2022.
- The commission urged the Supreme Court to fix the time limit for filing election petitions for the assembly elections held in six states.
- The commission demanded the release of used EVMs and VVPATs. The Supreme Court is set to hear next week.
- Accepting the request of the commission, CJI NV Ramana has decided to hear the petition next week.
- Advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for the commission, told the bench that a large number of EVMs and VVPATs are still preserved and all of them need to be released.
