Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar has defended the police action against protesting farmers in Karnal.
He said that peaceful demonstrations were assured but policemen were pelted with stones and a highway was blocked.
Around 10 people were injured when police allegedly pelted sticks on a group of farmers heading towards Karnal on a national highway to protest against a BJP meeting on Saturday.
Talking to reporters in Karnal after the meeting on Saturday evening, Khattar said that the protesting farmers had earlier assured the govt that their protest would be peaceful.
Khattar said, "If they had to protest, they should have done it peacefully, no one has any objection to that."
