
Prohibition on demolition of 5000 slums on Gujarat railway line will continue for the time being: Supreme Court
- The ban on demolishing 5000 jhuggis on the railway line in Gujarat will remain in force for the time being.
- The Supreme Court will hear the matter on September 1. Till then there will be no sabotage.
- On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had stayed the sabotage. The court has issued notice to the Centre, Railways and the Gujarat government.
- The court has ordered to maintain the status quo. Advocate Colin Gonsalves told the bench of CJI NV Ramana in the Supreme Court that the High Court has lifted the stay imposed since 2016.
- He said, "The government has made preparations to demolish these slums. Therefore, the Supreme Court should put a stop to this sabotage."
