Death of a girl who attempted self-immolation outside the Supreme Court, BSP MP was accused of rape

  • The woman, who attempted self-immolation in front of the Supreme Court on August 16, died on Tuesday after the woman had accused BSP MP Atul Rai of rape.
  • On August 16, along with the victim girl, a friend of hers had also attempted self-immolation, who died on Saturday. She was a witness in the case.
  • Before self-immolation, both of them had come live on Facebook and told that they are being harassed, fake cases are being brought against them.
  • The police, in their clarification, said that both of them took this step because they had produced false proof of age in the rape case, which led to the issue of non-bailable warrants.
  • Senior police officers suspended Varanasi Cantt SHO Rakesh Singh and investigating officer Girija Shankar and two policemen who were investigating the case.
