Bill passed in Lok Sabha to abolish the retrospective tax, opposition surrounds the govt
- Amidst the uproar of the opposition, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha.
- Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in Lok Sabha, "Lok Sabha has set a record, on an average, a bill is passed every 7 minutes. This is a humiliating attack on Indian democracy."
- Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai said, "This was an important bill related to the removal of the retrospective tax. It should have been discussed but it was not right to pass it without discussion."
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has called these allegations of the opposition baseless.
- She said, "Piyush Goyal and Prahlad Joshi have repeatedly told the opposition that we are ready for discussion... Still the opposition is alleging that the govt is under pressure. I am getting the bill passed."
