No trial for burning stubble, govt withdraws the law after farmers' protest

  • To check pollution, the central government has withdrawn the decision to sue the farmers who burn stubble in the fields.
  • Farmers agitating against the govt on agricultural laws had also objected to this provision, after which the Center itself removed it.
  • The govt had earlier put a provision for legal action on deteriorating air quality, but this provision has been removed in the bill which was passed on Thursday.
  • Letting you know, the Commission Bill 2021 for Air Quality Management in the NCR and adjoining areas have been approved by the Parliament.
  • Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav said that Deepender Hooda has expressed concern over Section 15 of the Bill, but Section 14 has made it clear that no case has been registered against the farmers who burn stubble.
