Centre- 'No one died due to manual scavenging in 5 years', relatives of the dead call it a cruel joke

  • It was told by the Union Ministry of Social Justice in Parliament that no one has died due to scavenging in the last 5 years.

  • Aman Badal's family lives above a toilet in Mira Bhayander, adjacent to Mumbai. On 10th May 2019, Aman had gone to a private society in Thane to clean the sewer.
  • During this, he died due to poisonous gas. Aman had a two-year-old son at the time of his death. The family now lives over a toilet.
  • After the death, the government had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a job. But till date, nothing has been found. The whole family is making a living by doing cleaning work.
