Bihar on the bottom in SDG report, half of the population is poor, says Centre in Parliament
- The central govt said on Wednesday that according to the India Index Report 2020-21 of NITI Aayog's Sustainable Development Goals, Bihar's overall score is the lowest among all states.
- This information was given by the Minister of Statistics and Program Implementation Rao Inderjit Singh in a written reply to a question by Rajiv Ranjan Singh in Lok Sabha.
- The minister said that the index has been prepared based on 115 indicators in 16 SDGs. He said that in the state, literacy is lowest in the age group of 15 years and above. He also listed some other such reasons.
- According to the minister, some of the main reasons for Bihar getting the lowest score in the SDG India Index report are that a large population of the state is living below the poverty line.
- According to a written reply given in Parliament, 42 % of children below 5 years of age in Bihar are of short stature or stunted and this figure is the highest in the country.
