MP takes maximum tax on petrol, Rajasthan on diesel: Petroleum Minister
- Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in the Lok Sabha that Madhya Pradesh levies the highest sales tax or VAT on petrol in the country.
- Puri said that Rajasthan levies the highest tax on diesel. Letting you know, Petrol and diesel prices are at their highest level this month.
- 55 percent of the retail price of petrol and 50 percent of the price of diesel are taxed by the central and states.
- Puri said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, "Excise duty/cess earned by the central govt from petrol during the financial year 2020-21 is Rs 1,01,598 crore and excise duty earned from diesel is Rs 2,33,296 crore."
- He said that the state governments levy VAT (value-added tax) on the base price of petrol and diesel and the total amount of central taxes.
