- A major issue of hacking of phones of Indian politicians, journalists and businessmen has come to the fore, although the govt has denied this.
- It has been claimed by the international media that the phones of the people of India were hacked using Pegasus software.
- Former IAS officer Surya Pratap Singh wrote on this issue, "Big journalists, leaders of opposition, industrialists, even Supreme Court judges were not spared."
- Raising the question, he said, "Why all this phone tapping was being done? What was the danger?"
- He further wrote, "Put a guard on the voice. Twisted the neck of democracy, blew it to pieces, sir."
