The Assam govt will take special policy steps to slow down the growth of the minority population, aiming to eradicate poverty and illiteracy.
State CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "I am going to meet 150 Muslim intellectuals on Sunday (July 4)."
He added, "During the last 1 month, I met both the factions of All Assam Minority Students Union and everyone said that population is a problem and we have to solve it."
He said, "If they (people from outside) don't understand the gravity of the situation and they create controversy just because BJP CM has said so, then it cannot be a dispute."
Sarma, said, "However, such a stand would have to come from within the community, as when the govt does it from outside, it will be interpreted on political grounds."
