West Bengal government 'turning back' from post-poll violence: Calcutta HC

  • The Calcutta High Court has made a strong comment on the post-poll violence in West Bengal. It said that the state government is retracting from the violence after the elections.
  • The High Court said that a perusal of the report of the committee constituted by the Chairman of the NHRC prima facie proves the stand taken by the petitioner that there has been violence after the elections.
  • The court added, "It has been found that there is trust among the victims so that they can return home. The police did not register complaints of many victims and forcibly imposed counter-cases against them."
  • It observed that the investigation of registered cases was done haphazardly and there were hardly any arrests in such heinous crimes. Some cases have not even been registered.
  • The court found that the Mamata Banerjee govt was at fault and retracted when people were dying and even minor girls were not spared. Many people's properties were damaged.
