Antilia case: CBI inquiry against Anil Deshmukh to continue, SC asks, What is wrong in this?

  • The Supreme Court has today cited the allegations of recovering Rs 100 crore every month on the former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.
  • The top court asked, "What is wrong in this, should such cases not be investigated by an independent investigating agency?"
  • The court refused to restrain or interfere in the investigation, saying that the CBI probe against Anil Deshmukh would continue.
  • Earlier, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for Deshmukh and the Maharashtra govt. Sibal argued that an inquiry was ordered based on oral allegations. 'Where is the evidence in this case?'
  • The SC made it clear that there are big figures involved in the allegations. Therefore, an independent inquiry is necessary and both the petitions are dismissed.
