
Five more Kashmiri political leaders released from detention
- On Thursday, Five more Kashmiri politicians, detained after August 5, were released by Jammu and Kashmir administration after a gap of over five months.
- The leaders were placed under detention on August 5, when the centre scrapped the erstwhile state's special status and bifurcated it into two union territories.
- However, Kashmir's three most prominent leaders – NCP leaders Farooq Abdullah, his son Omar Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti -- continue to remain in detention.
- Besides, on December 30, five other politicians, including two MLAs, were released from detention in the MLA hostel.
- These developments come amid global calls for the release of all political detainees and lifting of Internet restrictions in the Valley.
