After being rapped by the road safety committee of the Supreme Court, the state government on Thursday clarified that relaxation of the rule for wearing helmets while riding was “temporary.”
Chief minister Vijay Rupani said in Gandhinagar that the chief secretary will reply to the letter in due course of time.
The road safety committee of the Supreme Court had sought an explanation from the Gujarat government for making helmets optional.
In a letter addressed to the chief secretary, it issued directions to the state government to make helmets compulsory again for twowheeler riders.
The chief secretary has received a letter from the council. The state government has not done away with any law. The helmet rule has only been temporarily suspended.
