Amit Shah’s claims on CAB have proved that he doesn’t value secularism: Kerala CM

  • After the successful passage of Citizenship Amendment Bill, in both the houses of parliament, Kerala Chief MInister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the legislation has destroyed the very foundation of the Indian Constitution.

  • In one of his Facebook posts, the CM wrote: “The Bill which RSS passed in Parliament destroys the very foundation of the Indian Constitution. The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill denies the concept of secularism itself.”

  • The controversial bill, which sparked controversy in the entire country, was passed in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday with 125 members voting in favour and 105 voting against.

  • Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala stated that the Bill will be opposed legally and politically. Congress will challenge CAB by fighting legally in the Supreme Court and by protesting on the streets, he added.

  • The CAB, which has been fiercely resisted by opposition parties for being unconstitutional and discriminatory, will now need President Ram Nath Kovind’s assent for it to become law.
