Andhra Pradesh assembly clears Bill to punish rapists in 21 days
- 14 days after the gangrape and subsequent murder of woman veterinarian doctor in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh assembly on Wednesday tabled a bill to punish the perpetrators within 21 days.
- Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, approved the draft bill which is named after Disha, the victim of Hyderabad case. The police had named the victim as Disha to protect her identity.
- The CM also mentioned in the assembly that the govt will bring in a new law to ensure that in cases where there is conclusive evidence, the guilty shall be punished in 21 days.
- The Bill proposes to set up dedicated courts in all districts to deal with crimes against women and children.
- To instill confidence among women, the bill will also stress on zero FIR provision, which means that police have to register a case anywhere irrespective of jurisdiction to instill confidence among women.
