In an effort to reclaim Mahatma Gandhi whose legacy, Congress alleges, is being usurped by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other icons such as Sardar Patel, the party will oraganise week-long celebrations to mark the 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma for a week from October 2-9.
On October 2, the party will organise 'Padayatras' throughout the country under its banner. Congress general secretaries and state and district chiefs have been asked to galvanise workers for the padyatra and other programmes in a big way. "It is decided that our party will organise the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi for a week from October 2 to 9," read an internal circular by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal.
