BJP to counter AAP over 'freebies'

Concerned over the 'freebies' raining in Delhi, BJP functionaries are scampering to work out a strategy to counter the AAP government during the upcoming assembly polls.
In closed-door meetings held through the day on Thursday, recently appointed election in-charge Prakash Javadekar, Hardeep Singh Puri and Nityananad Rai, and several Delhi BJP functionaries raised concerns that the latest sops offered by the AAP government may give them an edge in the assembly elections.

They also suggested that the party must prevail upon central government to expedite the process to regularise unauthorised colonies and give ownership rights to its residents. "We told the central leaders that the party must work out a strategy to counter these welfare schemes," said a Delhi unit functionary. With the Delhi assembly polls less than six months away, the central leadership has started meeting the state and district unit functionaries. The meeting on Thursday came days after BJP national president Amit Shah had a brief discussion with a delegation of Delhi leaders.
