‘Functioning’ of Goa Dairy, cattle feed plant will be revived: Govind

With the aim to bring the Goa Dairy into profit within year’s time, the entire functioning of the dairy and its cattle feed plant will be revived within 3-4 months time, informed Co-operative Minister Govind Gaude, while speaking to this daily on Monday. The Minister recently paid a visit to the dairy’s office at Curti, and tried to understand its functioning.
“We have started preparing ground reports on the dairy farming across the state, and we are trying to understand farmers’ needs, expectation from the dairy and  how state dairy can flourish. And, based on those reports, the state government will revive the entire functioning of the dairy in coming three to four months,” Gaude said.
Speaking further, the Minister said that there are a lot of loopholes in the functioning of the dairy, which are resulting in losses, especially, for the cattle-feed plant. The state government will first plug these loopholes and then will concentrate on effective marketing of the existing milk supply, while the focus will be laid on improving the milk production in the state, Gaude said.

“The state government is aiming to take the milk supply of the Goa Dairy to 1 lakh litres per day, and for that a lot of efforts are needed. Considering it, we are going step by step and have set up small – small targets at first,” the Minister said, adding, “Our prime focus will be to increase Goa Diary’s milk sale over 70,000 liters per day within two-three months.”
