Three elected members from Congress in Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) and six former Congress councilors along with their supporters joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday, party sources said.
The three Congress members -- Buddha Lila Chakma, Ajay Kumar Chakma and Onish Moy Chakma -- and six former members -- Dayal Chandra Chakma, Trani Chakma, Purna Muni Chakma, Parimal Chakma, Gyana Shankar Chakma and F Raju Chakma -- were inducted into the BJP by state party president Prof JV Hluna during a function at Kamalanagar, the council headquarters.
The function was attended by many party leaders, including former assembly speaker Hiphei and lone BJP legislator Dr BD Chakma.
The BJP had won five seats in the election to the 20-member CADC held last year. While the Mizo National Front (MNF) won eight seats, the Congress bagged seven.
