Loutolim to start drafting CZMP from August 27
Loutolim village development committee with the support of village resource persons and the various associations in the village will collectively prepare the factual coastal zone management plan of the village from August 27 in case the government failed to depute experts to assist the village in preparing the same.
The draft CZMP prepared by the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM) for the village of Loutolim has failed to show hundreds of houses situated on the banks of River Zuari that passes through the village.
The plan shows khazan lands of the village in the CRZ areas with high tide line wrongly marked.
This bothered most of the villagers, who held gram sabhas and awareness programmes before objecting to the flawed CZMP.
‘The Navhind Times’ had highlighted the village’s plight vis-a-vis the CZMP in detail, and how the villagers would be badly affected if it was finalised.
Speaking to this daily, Xavier Fernandes, the present panch and former sarpanch, who is keenly fighting for the cause of villagers in relation to the CZMP, said, “During the last gram sabha, we had collectively decided to urge the Department of Environment to depute an expert to help the villagers prepare the factual plan. In last two days, we sent the reminder to the environment director. If the department of environment does not come to our help, we will do it by roping in private resource
persons.”
He said that the village development committee chairman and the members with the help of the panchayat members have started collecting the data and would contact each of the associations like communidade, farmers clubs etc for the inputs, which would be necessary to draft the CZMP in a right perspective.
“We will try to meet the deadline in sending the CZMP. We also seek support of the villagers in this direction,” Fernandes said.
