Residents should give a thought of harvesting rain water especially those having their own houses, said Panaji MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate. Meanwhile the city mayor Uday Madkaikar has said that the residents from Panaji and Taleigao had shown a lot of resilience in overcoming the water crisis in the last 7 days.Addressing the media, Madkaikar along with deputy Mayor, Pascoela Mascarenhas, revealed that the Panaji MLA Atanasio Babush Monserrate had held a meeting with the water tanker suppliers and made elaborate arrangements to supply water to the affected areas.
Besides two CCP water tankers used for watering municipal gardens and another with 5000 litre capacity tanker was also pressed into service to cater to the needs of the residents. “On an average, we were supplying 100- 120 tankers everyday even at midnight whenever we received calls from residents. The residents were also cooperative over the issue and showed a lot of restraint” he added. He said that Babush was outstation when the city faced the water crisis but he cut short his trip and rushed back to his constituency. After monitoring the supply he made elaborate arrangements by holding a meeting with water tanker owners by spending from his own pocket.
