6,336 suffered crop loss of Rs 8.92 cr, says Dy CM

The livelihood of over 6,000 farmers has been affected due to the incessant rains that caused flooding in several parts of the State, earlier this month. Addressing media persons following his maiden visit to Agriculture Department after taking over the charge, Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant Kavlekar said a total 6,336 farmers across the State, most from North Goa, have suffered crop loss to the tune of Rs 8.92 crore due to flooding.

He said almost 1900 hectares of fields have been destroyed. Kavlekar said the damage caused is mostly due to opening of Tillari dam gates. He said the files for compensation have been moved and at least 50 per cent of the money would be provided to the farmers before Ganesh Chaturthi.
