Meghalaya govt plans ropeway at Umiam Lake

The Meghalaya government has planned to come up with a ropeway at Umiam Lake. Apart from a ropeway, the State government has also planned to create new tourism infrastructure at Umiam Lake viewpoint which include restaurants and stalls for vendors. This was stated by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Saturday after inspecting the Umiam Lake viewpoint. This decision has been taken by the Meghalaya government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma for attracting more tourists to Umiam Lake.
Informing this on his Twitter handle, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated: “Inspected the site for creating new tourism infrastructure at Umiam Lake view point, which includes rope way, restaurants and stalls for vendors.” It may be mentioned that Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma called for urgent action to save the Umiam Lake.
He had also called for both short-term and long-term steps to clean up the Umiam Lake. According to a report submitted by a Meghalaya Assembly Committee, due to siltation and dumping of waste, the lifespan of the lake may not extend beyond the year 2024. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma suggested that that a committee be formed to work out measures for cleaning the lake.
