NRC: Assam Cong MP Ripun Bora writes to home minister Amit Shah

Rajya Sabha MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora wrote to home minister Amit Shah on Monday urging him to intervene and stop the re-verification of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) draft list of Assam.
This letter comes after sudden notices for re-verification were issued by NRC across the state fixing August 5 as the date for appearing at NRC centres in district headquarters.
In his letter to Shah, Bora said, “You are aware of the fact that very recently in the NRC case, the Hon’ble Supreme Court rejected the petition of the Assam Government and central government for 20% re-verification of the names of the draft list of NRC. Hon’ble Supreme Court passed this order rejecting re-verification on the basis of the declaration made by the state co-ordinator of NRC in the Supreme Court that they have already done 27% re-verification in the draft list of NRC.”
Bora said suddenly issuing thousands of notices has created panic among the people. “We, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, strongly register our protest at this most and undemocratic, illegal act of NRC authority. Moreover, there is every possibility of large-scale deleting of the names from the draft NRC list which will deprive the Indian citizens and push them to uncertainty,” he wrote.
Bora urged the home minister to intervene into the matter and stop NRC authority from conducting re-verification of the draft NRC list and give justice to the Indian citizens from “undue harassment on the name of re-verification.”
