Ravi arrives, to take oath as Gov today

Governor designates RN Ravi reached the State Capital on Wednesday along with his family.
He was received by chief minister Neiphiu Rio, deputy chief minister Y Patton, ministers, advisers and senior officers of the State government led by chief secretary Temjen Toy. The governor designate also took the general salute at Raj Bhavan courtyard upon his arrival, which was accorded by Nagaland Police personnel.
Earlier in the day, upon his arrival at Dimapur airport, Ravi was received by agriculture & cooperation minister G Kaito Aye, PHE minister Jacob Zhimomi, commissioner M Patton, Dimapur police commissioner Limasunep Jamir, Dimapur deputy commissioner  Kevekha Kevin Zehol and others. He was also accorded a warm welcome by people with traditional attires, representing different tribes including Nagaland GBs Federation members, at the airport.
Ravi will be administered the oath of office and secrecy as governor of Nagaland by Gauhati High Court acting chief justice Arup Kumar Goswami at Raj Bhavan’s Durbar Hall at 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Meanwhile, while extending a warm welcome to the Governor designate, Patton exuded confidence that Ravi’s appointment as the State’s governor gave a ray of hope towards resolution of the protracted Naga political issue as he still held the post of Centre’s interlocutor in the peace talks.
Interacting with Nagaland Post at his official residence here on Wednesday, Patton said Ravi being closely associated with the Nagas and the Naga political issue for long, he was confident that Naga political solution was not far off.
The deputy chief minister also acknowledged the Central government for giving Ravi the gubernatorial assignment for Nagaland, adding it was an honor for the Nagas to have Ravi as the governor and that the citizens of the State indeed awaited his arrival with many expectations.
Referring to former governor PB Acharya’s comment that a solution would be reached within 2019, Patton remarked that Ravi’s assignment was an indication of resolution for the Naga political issue.
To queries on whether the cabinet had held any discussion to pave the way, if solution took place anytime, besides the old slogan of paving way for the solution, Patton said nothing had been discussed so far.
He added that not only the cabinet or PDA partners but every elected member would be taken on board for broader discussion.
CNTC welcomes Ravi: Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) while welcoming the new Governor of Nagaland, R.N. Ravi to the state, expressed optimism that with his vast experience and in-depth knowledge about the Naga political issue, an honorable solution will be working out at the earliest.
As people’s expectations have risen up with Ravi’s appointment, CNTC through its media cell was hopeful that these expectations do not become mere futile wishful thinking, but transcend into meaningful and logical conclusion on the long protracted issue which will usher in an era of peace, harmony, and unity amongst the Nagas.
