Mizoram government asked to draw a new map

People's Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram (PRISM) and Joint Action Committee on Inner Line 509 Square Mile Demand (JAC-IL-509-SMD) on Tuesday asked the Mizoram government to prepare a new political map of the state. PRISM president, Vanlalruata said that leaders of the JAC and PRISM on Tuesday convened a joint meeting over the border issue.
The meeting observed that the existing political map of Mizoram is "inaccurate" and therefore, asked the state government to redraw the new map covering the entire Mizoram's territory, including 509 square mile stretch of Inner Line Reserved Forest Area, he said. The meeting also demanded the state government to give priority to the protection of the state's boundary.
It can be recalled here that the PRISM had recently released a new political map of Mizoram covering the Inner Line Reserved Forest Area. PRISM is a newly floated political party, which earlier was functioned as an anti-corruption watchdog.

The party on Monday launched a signature campaign against Election Commission of India (ECI) over the voting rights of Bru people in Tripura. Vanlalruata said that the party would file PIL against the poll panel for allegedly illegally declaring the Bru people as "ordinary residents of Mizoram." He also said that the ECI declared the Bru people as ordinary residents of Mizoram in September 2014 which was "illegal as the poll panel is not a competent authority".

With major civil society organizations, PRISM also demanded that all Bru voters, who are unwilling to return to Mizoram should be deleted from the state's electoral roll. Meanwhile, the Mizoram government is preparing for repatriation of over 32,000 Bru people, scheduled to commence from October.
