Governor BD Mishra, CM Pema Khandu Remember Kargil Martyrs

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) Dr BD Mishra and Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Thursday paid tributes to the martyrs of the Indian armed forces, who laid down their lives safeguarding the country’s borders during the Kargil War of 1999, one of the most recent full-scale conflicts between India and Pakistan.
On the historic occasion of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ to be celebrated on Friday, the Governor in his message expressed his optimism that the sacrifices made by the martyrs would continue to inspire the present and future generations to rise to the occasion in support of the frontline soldiers who guard the frontiers of the motherland.
Governor BD Mishra said that Kargil Vijay Diwas is a very special day for every Indian. “In the 60-day war, demonstrating unparalleled valour, many of our soldiers and officers made the ultimate sacrifice for the defence of our country. This war saw the display of the steel-like courage, superb commitment, supreme patriotism and unflinching loyalty of the soldiers and officers of the armed forces towards the nation,” he said.
“On this day, I join every Arunachali in saluting our martyrs. Let us remind ourselves of the sacrifices our brave soldiers made for the territorial integrity of the country. As a befitting honour to all our martyrs, let us take a pledge to protect, preserve and defend every inch of our Bharat,” the Governor added in his message.
Pema Khandu in his message said, “In the conflict that lasted from May 3 to July 26 in Kargil district of Kashmir and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC), our forces displayed extreme courage and patriotism and successfully regained control of all previously held territory. In the process, about 527 brave soldiers of the Army laid down their lives. We remember them and pay our gratitude today.”
The Chief Minister called on the people to pay rich tributes to the brave martyrs and pledge solidarity with jawans and officers of the armed forces serving in various parts of the country.
“In Arunachal Pradesh, we live in close proximity and constant touch with the Army. On this day let’s send them a message that we are with them through thick and thin and view their sacrifices in high esteem,” Khandu added.
