Priority is to rebuild party, win back voters’ confidence: Kumaraswamy
By The Hindu 25-Jul-2019
“I do not know about the future of the alliance with the Congress. I am not sure what Congress leaders decide on the issue,” Mr. Kumaraswamy told reporters here on Wednesday. The priority before the JD(S), he said, was to build the party and win back the confidence of voters. His comments came ahead of the JD(S) Legislature Party meeting — the first one after the fall of the government.
After the meeting, party national president H.D. Deve Gowda said they do not have any differences with the Congress, and spoke about similar sentiments expressed by Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao. Even the newly appointed party State president H.K. Kumaraswamy said, “At the moment, the alliance exists. Politics is not stagnant. Party leaders will take a call on the continuance of the alliance.”
Multiple sources in both the Congress and the JD(S) acknowledged that while continuation of the already shaky alliance after the fall of the coalition government remains doubtful, the alliance could sustain till byelections are held, if the Speaker accepts the resignations of 15 rebel legislators.
