MLA says Rs 100 cr will have to be spent to repair Navelim roads

Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro said around Rs 100 crore will have to be spent to repair the roads in Navelim constituency, which have been left damaged by various government departments while carrying out different works. “The beautiful arterial roads during my tenure have been totally damaged and reduced to shambles by the Sewerage Corporation, JICA, Electricity Department and Telecommunication Department, who dug the road to carry out their work and but never restored them,” alleged Luizinho.
He said the concerned department is supposed to repair the damaged road or at least pay the estimated cost to the PWD. They fail to do it as a result of which the Works Division has to repair the roads despite lack of funds. Recalling that former chief minister late Manohar Parrikar had sanctioned Rs  25 crore for roads in Navelim constituency, Faleiro said he now needed Rs 100 crore to only repair the damage done to the roads and added that he will raise up this matter with the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
He claimed that the work done on the National Highway in his constituency is faulty and the road would have to be cut again as it has blocked the natural waterway that used to drain the monsoon water. “The engineer responsible for this colossal waste of public funds should be held accountable,” he demanded and vowed to pursue the matter. Luizinho argued that there are death traps caused while undertaking road repairs. “They remove foot thick asphalt and replace it with 1 inch thick asphalt, which crumbles under the slightest weight and thus turns into a death trap,” he said.
