Govt rejects demand for reverting Shiroda plot

The government on Friday rejected the demand of opposition MLAs to revert plot to a particular private firm of which a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA is one of the directors. The particular piece of land, admeasuring 1,87,825 square metres, was acquired by the government in Shiroda for industry purpose, prior to recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls and by-polls to four Assembly segments, and handed over to Industrial Development Corporation.
Marcaim MLA Ramakrishna alias Sudin Dhavalikar questioned the government as to what was the need for acquiring the land when there was already around 3 lakh square metres of land lying vacant in Shiroda.
“It is adjacent to the main road where no industries can come up and only a residential complex can be built. I want an inquiry so as to find out who is behind acquirement of the plot,” Dhavalikar said, while speaking during the question hour in the Assembly.
He claimed that there are 24 plots vacant in Panchwadi, and the plots which have been allotted are also lying vacant in three industrial estates in Shiroda constituency.
Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane shot back at Dhavalikar and questioned his intention for raking up the issue and questioned why Marcaim MLA failed to raise his objection to the decision of the government while he was a senior minister in the late Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government. “It is a decision taken by the government and we are not going to reverse it and there is no question of initiating any inquiry in the matter,” Rane said.
