Stating that the Goan tourist taxi operators should accept the fact that this is the age of competition and adopt new technology for running their business, the government on Thursday refused to withdraw taxies using GoaMiles app for providing service to the customers.
Earlier, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao in the state legislative assembly said the government should not allow GoaMiles to have its taxi stands in the vicinity of all the hotels located along the Goan beach belt, including outside the Goa Tourism Development Corporation hotel at Colva. 
He also claimed that the GoaMiles was affecting the business of traditional tourist taxi operators. Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Minister
Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar said the government cannot stop GoaMiles taxies from parking near the coastal hotels, further stating that the government would soon impose parking tax on all taxies parked outside the hotels.
He also said that a few local tourist taxi operators are damaging Goa’s image in the country by charging very high fare from the customers. Azgaonkar opined that even Goans don’t prefer to hire tourist taxis operated by locals due to unaffordable rates levied. He also suggested that the local tourist taxi operators could join the app-based service, which will increase their monthly income.
