Urgency for municipal elections questioned

Former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy has questioned the motive behind in the urgency shown for the municipal elections when the government has time up to October this year. After a meeting of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Election Coordination Committee, Mr. Reddy asked where was the need for bringing in a new Municipal Act in such a hurried manner without consulting political parties and other groups.
There is some motive behind the way Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao wants to complete the process within a month. Even the delimitation of municipalities was done “secretly without anyone’s knowledge”. This has forced people to move the courts to get a stay order. The court has already given stay orders on the delimitation of Bhainsa and Shamshabad municipalities while many more cases are being filed by the aggrieved parties, he added.
