Only the government can decide on Rajiv Gandhi case convicts: Edappadi K Palaniswami

Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday said the state government had done its part in seeking the release of seven convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case and now governor Banwarilal Purohit would have to decide on their release. Intervening in the debate on demand for grants for law, administration of justice and prisons departments, the CM said the cabinet passed a resolution to release the convicts after the Supreme Court order.

“Law is common for all… We passed a resolution and sent it to the governor for action. We have done it right and there is no lapse on our part,” he said, taking a dig at the previous DMK regime for doing little on the matter. DMK leader S Durai Murugan said the party did not get a chance as the AIADMK did in the wake of the SC order.
