Committed to driving awaydrought, says Deputy CM

Deputy Chief Minister K. Narayanaswamy has said the Jagan Mohan Reddy government is committed to driving away drought from the face of the Rayalaseema region and the water projects will be given due importance.
Speaking as chief guest at the government-sponsored joint event of Rythu Dinotsavam and pensions’ distribution to mark the Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s 70th birth anniversary at the MPDO office at Gangadhara Nellore, 10 km from here, on Monday, the Deputy Chief Minister said that the Telugu Ganga waters would be prudentially utilised for both irrigation and drinking purposes.
Mr. Narayanaswamy said that in order to improve the living standards of farmers and to help them reap high yield, all the welfare schemes meant for them, would be expedited, apart from giving top priority to the natural farming, sericulture and horticulture. He said that defunct sugar factories would be reopened soon.
Prohibition
The Deputy Chief Minister said that prohibition of liquor would be implemented effectively in a phased manner. Mr Narayanaswamy, who spoke at length about ‘Navaratnalu’, later, distributed social pensions, financial assistance to farmers, loans to self-help groups.
Collector Narayana Bharath Gupta, officials of the agriculture and allied departments, social welfare department were present. Meanwhile, the YSR Congress leaders celebrated the birth anniversary of YSR at all the 14 Assembly constituencies in the district, garlanding his statues and performing ‘annadanam’.
