State gearing up to implement Jal Shakti Abhiyan, says CS

Chief Secretary L.V. Subrahmanyam told Union Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha during a videoconference on Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) that a nodal officer was being appointed for implementing the programme and two senior officers would be in-charge of it. He said the State government would take steps for conserving water and improving the groundwater levels. Mr. Subrahmanyan stated that JSA would be carried out across urban and rural areas, particularly in water-stressed areas.
Mr. Sinha said JSA was aimed at accelerating rainwater harvesting, conserving the existing resources and recharging borewells in 255 water-stressed districts / regions. It would commence on July 1 and senior officers of the Government of India had been deputed to coordinate with the States for its successful implementation.
State government Principal Secretaries Gopal Krishna Dwivedi (Panchayat Raj and Rural Development) and J. Syamala Rao (Municipal Administration) were present.
