Jagan indulging in smear campaign, alleges TDP

The TDP has rebutted Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s allegation of corruption in the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) entered into during its rule, and termed it as nothing but political vendetta.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, TDP State president and former Energy Minister K. Kala Venkata Rao said it was surprising that the Chief Minister had come to the conclusion that corruption to the tune of ₹2,600 crore took place in the renewable energy sector. “There is no basis for his conclusion,” Mr. Venkata Rao argued.
‘Vengeful attitude’
The government’s decision to review the PPAs smacks of the vengeful attiude of the Chief Minister, Mr. Venkata Rao said, and recalled that the PPAs had been drafted as per the guidelines issued by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) and the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC).
Traiff had been fixed after the proposals made by the AP-Transco were put in public domain and public hearing conducted by the APERC. There was no scope for corruption as alleged by Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy, he asserted. Mr. Venkata Rao further said that the Central government was actively encouraging renewable energy with a view to bringing down pollution and protecting the environment. The investors would shy away if the State government resorted to such acts.
