Centre assured support to Meghalaya water policy, says Conrad Sangma

The Central government has shown keen interest in the State Water Policy drafted by Meghalaya government and assured full support to it in this regard. Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma, who met Union Jal Shakti minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Monday, said that the Jal Shakti ministry has shown keen interest in the policy and have assured full support to him. Sangma during a meeting, discussed at length on the draft State Water Policy with Union minister Shekhawat along with state water resource minister Metbah Lyngdoh and PHE minister Samlin Malgniang.
The Meghalaya government has already prepared a State Water Policy that will soon be placed in the public domain for suggestions. “The issue of water crisis is a global cause of worry and through the creation of the Jal Shakti ministry at the Centre and the state of Meghalaya having its own State Water Policy, there shall be a focused approach on this issue,” chief minister Sangma had said. He has said that the problem of water crisis is alarming everywhere and it is about time that the seriousness of the situation is understood by everyone. Having water professionals and creating awareness in villages with active participation of the public will determine the success of the policy, he added.
