Six Mizoram parties to merge into a single party

The Zoram People’s Movement(ZPM), an electoral alliance formed by six political parties, has decided to merge into a single political party.

ZPM senior vice president, Dr. Kenneth Chawngliana told reporters at a press conference here on Thursday that the six parties would merge into one under the ZPM banner by July. He also said that the ZPM leaders will go to New Delhi to meet the Election Commission for registration on July 2.

“All the six parties, barring the Mizoram People’s Conference (MPC), have consented to merge into one,” he said, adding that the MPC will soon hold meeting over the matter. “We are hopeful that all the parties including MPC will join hands as a single party,” he expressed.
According to Chawngliana, the ZPM was initially formed by three parties- Zoram Nationalist Party (ZNP), MPC and Zoram Exodus Movement (ZEM) in August 2017. Later, Mizoram People’s Party (MPP), Zoram Reformation Front (ZRF) and Zoram Democratic Front (ZDF) joined the ZPM banner.
It can be mentioned here that the ZPM had fought the assembly polls alone last year and won eight seats, including two seats won by its chief ministerial candidate Lalduhoma. It secured 22.9 percent of vote share in that election.
