Situation remains tense in Chopra as TMC-BJP workers clash, 1 student 'suffers bullet injury'

Situation continued to remain tense in West Bengal’s Chopra on Friday, a day after violence marred polling in the region during the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections yesterday. Fresh violence broke out in Chopra, which falls under Darjeeling parliamentary constituency, on Friday morning, with workers of the Trinamool Congress and the BJP clashing with each other.
As per reports, a class 7 student suffered a bullet injury during the clashes. Both the TMC and the BJP workers have accused each other of opening fire during the fracas. Bombs were also allegedly hurled during the clash, as per sources.
Violence had erupted in a small pocket of a village in Chopra on Thursday which later spilled onto the national highway as an angry mob staged a blockade. The cops had to resort to tear gas shells and lathi-charge to disperse the mob, reports said.
