KC(M) yatra enters crucial phase

Kerala Congress (M) leader Jose K. Mani’s Kerala yatra will begin its second phase when it enters the southern districts on Monday. The southern districts, mainly Idukki and Kottayam, are reckoned as the strongholds of the Kerala Congress (M), hence the party leadership will go all out to make Mr. Mani’s political campaign a success.
Mr. Mani’s yatra was flagged off from Kasaragod by former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on January 24. It has covered the northern districts, focusing on agrarian areas. “The yatra lays stress on three issues, protection for farmers, secular India, and constructing a new Kerala. The response the yatra got in the northern districts was quite impressive,” Mr. Jose K. Mani said on Sunday.
He said the issues he sought to highlight had become more relevant after the Central and State budgets. In the northern districts, the Kerala Yatra touched the main agrarian areas, including Wayanad, which is facing a major farm crisis. “All UDF partners have been carrying out political campaigns of their own. This will help strengthen the coalition,” he said.
