No need for my permission to arrest Kampli MLA, says Speaker

Legislative Assembly Speaker K.R. Ramesh Kumar on Friday made it clear that there was no need for the police to take his (Speaker’s) permission to arrest Kampli MLA J.N. Ganesh, who allegedly assaulted Vijayanagar MLA B.S. Anand Singh at a resort on the city’s outskirts on January 20.
The Speaker told reporters that he would be responsible for any incident that happens inside the House. “But, those incidents that happen outside the House do not come under my ambit,” he said.
“The Home Department should keep me informed about his arrest or release as I have to inform the members of the House. But they do not have to take my permission for his arrest,” the Speaker said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Singh, who is recuperating at Apollo Hospitals, Seshadripuram, is likely to stay in the hospital for some more days. Mr. Singh had sustained a black eye and blunt injuries during the brawl at the resort. He had also sought a second opinion for the swelling in his right eye from ophthalmologist K. Bhujang Shetty in Narayana Nethralaya.
